Sierras?
Eric lives in the Sierra foothills east of the Central Valley in California, hence the name.
Sea kayaking in the Sierras?
Sure! The Sierras are full of scenic mountain lakes that offer outstanding paddling. These locations are perfect for foundation classes spring through fall! How about an after work rolling session on Millerton Lake or a "sunrise paddle" in the morning mist on Huntington Lake?
Popular lakes: Millerton, Pine Flat, Kaweah, Shaver, Huntington, Courtright/Wishon, Bass Lake, McClure, Don Pedro, Lake Tahoe, and many others.
And, a few short hours drive West provide some of the best paddling in California. Being centrally located allows the choice of paddling in the Monterey-Santa Cruz area, or the central coast stretch from San Simeon to Pismo Beach. Add an additional hour of driving and paddle the dynamic waters of San Francisco. It's not uncommon for Eric to leave an early morning for the coast, launch by 9:00am, paddle all day, and be back home that evening. And with a night of tent camping, or a motel stay, it's easy to enjoy a full weekend of world class sea kayaking.
For the best introduction to sea paddling, sign up for a two day beginner coastal experience! Learn the basics in sheltered waters on day one, and practice what you've learned on day two with a genuine sea journey. We'll paddle in the company of sea otters, seals, sea lions and marine birds. We'll even poke our bows toward the "outside" a little, for your first introduction to the open sea! Offered all year round, and a perfect break from the summer time valley heat!
Popular locations- Monterey Bay, Elkhorn Slough, Morro Bay, Pismo Dinosaur caves. And many others!
